This was a late Father’s Day hike – we celebrated Father’s Day a week late due to other conflicts. Everyone asked what I wanted to do and of course the answer was to hike, but since most of my hikes are too difficult for most of the family, I decided it would be interesting to explore the trails in Newell Creek Canyon. I’ve wanted to see them ever since they built them, but never got around to it.

We headed out after lunch and got to the parking area – I was surprised there weren’t more people since it was a nice day and not too hot. We headed down the trail and soon got to the highlight of the trip – Tumble Creek Falls:

After that, we continued a bit farther – we were kind of hoping we could do a loop but the trail was more of an out and back, so we turned around and came back. On the way back, I took a picture of this plant because I wanted to identify it:

I thought it was Foxglove and after we got home I confirmed it is indeed foxglove. It was quite abundant on the trail.

It didn’t take us too long to get back up. At some point on the way back up, the twins started getting tired but they walked most of the way, which was pretty impressive for 2 year olds. When we got back up to the parking area, I looked at the info board and realized we weren’t supposed to have dogs – they are concerned about tearing up the trail and also frightening wildlife. Thankfully, neither of those occurred – I felt kind of silly – I’m not one to ignore rules but this was an honest oversight and there really was no harm done.

It was a really nice way to spend an hour with the whole extended family. I’d like to come back here and do all of the hiker trails (they also have mountain bike only trails) – it looks to be just under 5 miles if you do all 3 hiker trails. Sounds like a neat day of exploring!
